I originally bought this game back in 2021 to cheer up a friend of mine. We proceeded to play this game for 13+ hours straight. Years later, we are now married and getting ready to play the 1.0 release as a date night. One of the best survival games I've ever played, and it helped me get married. 10/10 Edit: I never thought in a million years this would end up the most helpful review of the game. I just wanted to share my anecdotal reason why I love this game because my wife and I thought it would be funny. Thank you all for the nice and silly comments, we both are loving the 1.0 release!

Valheim isn't a game. It's a place you keep coming back to. I've spent hundreds of hours here, both alone and with a good friend. Over time it became much more than a way to pass an evening. It was there for me during some hard times in my life, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it helped me get through them. Here you find whatever you need at the moment. Want a fight? Grab your axe and go meet whatever dares to challenge you. Want adventure? Raise the sail and let the sea decide where it takes you. And when your heart is heavy, you just plant some wheat and watch it grow =). You listen to meat sizzling over the fire and rain drumming on the roof of a house you built log by log. And slowly, it gets easier. Special thanks for co-op. I still remember the day my friend and I decided to become sailors, and how we nearly went to the bottom the moment I took the helm. I remember chasing a sea serpent through a storm, waves crashing over the side, the ship groaning, and neither of us willing to give up, because what wouldn't you do for a bowl of serpent stew? And afterwards came the hot tub, the steam, the quiet, and the feeling that life was good. Evenings like that stay with you forever. Dear Iron Gate, thank you. For a world with no rush. For a quiet where you can hear yourself think. For never giving up on your game and carrying it to release with so much love and patience. You didn't just make a game.
