Wreckfest is a racing video game developed by Bugbear Entertainment and published by THQ Nordic. Wreckfest is described as the spiritual successor to the FlatOut series, which was created by Bugbear, and takes further inspiration from the Destruction Derby series and the cult 1989 racer Street Rod. A notable feature of the game engine is the use of soft-body damage modelling, which enables location-based damage that affects the driving dynamics of vehicles in a realistic fashion.

Runs well on modern hardware.

It's a fun, but a bit flawed game. Good: - The destruction physics is great. - Driving feels good. - Plenty of nice levels and cars. Bad: - The AI is a cheating griefer. It can get quite frustrating. It's designed more to make your life miserable instead of being fun to play against and there is no way to tweak it. - Buggy. Kept getting a black screen and "ValidateHardwareSettings" when trying to run it. Had to find and delete a settings file to get past it. Don't try to enable "fullscreen" mode, it's broken. - The music is mixed hilariously low, and can't be raised. Someone on the team don't want to you to hear it while racing.
How to enjoy the game. step 1: Join multiplayer. step 2: Pick bus vehicle. step 3: Drive in reverse and run into multiple vehicles, crashing them. step 4: Read all of their chat. like this game played 7hrs after purchased. 10/10
The racing clashes with the demolition. There's no incentive to go on the attack when the game is scored off position. Some of the bonus targets (+XP) require dealing damage but that slows you down too much. The only carnage is at the crossroads and losing several positions after getting randomly T-boned isn't particularly fun. Graphics are alright if you can ignore the pop in. Controls fall apart without the assists. The soundtrack you can't even hear without cranking the engine audio down to 20% and when you do, the heavy rock soon gets repetitive. The crowd is eerily stiff and there's no sense of speed. Only a quarter of players made it past the national amateurs championship and that's where I'm dropping it.
