Yakuza Kiwami 2 is a standout remake that modernizes a series classic from Sony's PS2 version. The original Japanese First Print (RGG 2 / Ryu Ga Gotoku 2) was released on two single-layer discs, This was because the game's data, including high-quality FMV cutscenes, exceeded the capacity of a single standard DVD. (◉ _ ◉) Thought it is absolutely, violently gritty, it also hilarious on some parts. And that's the absolute charm of this game. Silly yet meanie. Me likey! (˶>⩊<˶) Plus, there's a particular scene that definitely or shall we say, heavily inspired; by Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather (1972) adaptation from Mario Puzo's novel. Chillax, no spoilers here. But yeah, that one scene is awesomely made and somewhat also perfect for RGG 2. ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ Kiwami 2 biggest pros include the transition to the Dragon Engine, which offers stunning visuals and seamless transitions between exploration and combat. Now the fighting felt more smoothly flowing and full contact in attacking or countering, just like Batman Arkham Series. Though The "body effects" of ragdoll physics in this game often looks so exaggerated and goofy, making it hilarious than ever before. It can be made as funniest ragdoll glitches compilation. (💢,,>﹏<,,) The story features one of the franchise's most iconic antagonists, Ryuji Goda, added beloved mini-games like the Cabaret Club Grand Prix and become a "professional" photographer of Fascinant Jardin (Gravure Studio in Kamurocho). This feels like an overhauled game, but at least Kiwami 1 and 2 are able to staying faithfully true for the main plots. Exactly the same from the original RGG 1 and 2. ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡ HOWEVER, there are notable cons... ∘ ∘ ∘ ( °ヮ° ) ! Many players miss the flexible multi-style combat from previous entries, now Kiryu is limited to a single fighting style here, as Yakuza 0 and Kiwami part 1 has four different styles: -Brawler Style: チンピラスタイル (Chinpira Sutairu) -Rush Style: ラッシュスタイル (Rasshu Sutairu) -Beast Style: 壊し屋スタイル (Kowashiya Sutairu) -Dragon of Dojima Style: 堂島の龍スタイル (Dōjima no Ryū Sutairu) / Legend Style (伝説スタイル / Densetsu Sutairu) Those are gone. This sucks. Totally lame. What were you thinking, SEGA and RGG Studio? ( ╹ -╹)?( ╹ -╹)?╹ -╹)?( ╹ -╹)?( ╹ -╹)? Also too bad, the Shinseicho district and its landmark Tsutenkaku Tower, as well as several fun mini-games from the original version, were removed from Yakuza Kiwami 2 primarily due to budget and time constraints between major releases like Yakuza 6 and Judgment at that time, leading to corners being cut to ensure a timely release. Yup, the hostess bars are also removed, You can no longer visit cabaret clubs (kyabakura) like Shine or Jewel as a standard customer as you could in the original game anymore. Club Adam and Marietta substories are gone, and many iconic tracks which gave more darker, "crime drama" vibe are also gone, including unique themes for bosses like Hayashi (Evil Itself) and Shindo (The Grudge), were replaced with generic or new music. The original featured rain during gameplay, whereas Kiwami 2 largely limits rain to scripted cutscenes. Several characters were redesigned to look like their new voice actors in the remake. For example, the character Takashima looks significantly older in Kiwami 2 than he did in the original and seems out of place. And what stands out the most, certain boss fights in the original RGG2 had crowds watching in the background that were removed or simplified in Kiwami 2. (¬_¬") My verdict: Original RGG2 for PS2, is still the winner by default than Kiwami 2. (≖⩊≖) I am not a purist. I like Kiwami 1 which is the very best faithful remake from the original RGG1 version. Too bad Kiwami 2 felt more like a huge downgrade of everything from the original RGG2 in every way. Only the graphics are top-notch. And you can switch from third to first person point of view while exploring around. Those are the only two reasons why I give this game a thumbs up. ╮( ̄▽ ̄"")╭ Please, SEGA. No more barraging disappointments for true gamers. Give us the remaster of RGG1 and RGG2, the original versions. Old and new must coexist instead of just focusing on the new ones like the Kiwamis, but lost too many good parts from the original RGG series. Let us gamers enjoy the best of both versions. Kiwamis and also the Original Remasters still with all of their originality intact. That will be fair for all of us! Plus more profits for SEGA. That's all, folks! (*>ω<*)♡ +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ There is one among many substories in Yakuza Kiwami 2 that parodies The Ring (リング , Ringu) 1998; one of the best J-Horror movies adapted from the best-selling horror novel series made by the one and only Koji Suzuki. It was directed by Hideo Nakata with Hiroshi Takahashi as screenwriter, the cast were Nanako Matsushima, Miki Nakatani, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Its massive success launched a global boom in Asian horror and led to the 2002 American remake directed by Gore Verbinski. In the English version of the original PS2 game, the substory was titled "The Exorcist" (エクソシスト). In the remake, Yakuza Kiwami 2, the quest was renamed to "Rising from the Shadows" (闇から浮き出る). (Substory #15): In this quest, Kazuma Kiryu is forced to watch a 'cursed' video that supposedly causes anyone who watches it to be cursed by a supernatural entity. The parody includes several nods to Suzuki's work: -The Cursed Tape: You are tasked with watching a mysterious VHS tape to transfer a supernatural curse from the previous person who had watched it. -The "Ghost": A creepy, pale woman with black hair, clearly modeled poorly yet hilarious after Sadako Yamamura, appears on the screen briefly. -The Twist: True to the RGG / Yakuza series' humor, the supernatural elements are often given a bizarre or comedic explanation, subverting the high tension of the original horror story. This was a good homage in a comedic way and I loved it. Yet I still prefer the OG Sadako from Ringu 1998 than the modern day version, recently they made her more comedic and not genuinely scary anymore, as she hauntingly did back in the 90s. But sadly... On Friday, May 8, 2026 Koji Suzuki, the visionary "Stephen King of Japan," passed away at 68. He is the acclaimed Japanese author behind the global horror phenomenon Ring (Ringu), originally published in 1991. Renowned for his psychological masterpiece, he redefined global horror by blending modern technology with ancient dread. A master storyteller and also a sailor, his chilling legacy lives on through the haunting icon Sadako and his profound influence on cinema. Especially J-Horror genre. Rest in peace, weaver of originality. (╥﹏╥)
Live your life
For some reason I love Ryuji Goda and for me he's easily top 5 yakuza characters in the series maybe top 3 I definitely think kiwami 2 is better than 1 Best word to describe this game is beauitful, it truly is a beautiful game 8.6/10
