Absolutely a hidden gem amongst the visual novel community. Your Turn to Die asks questions other death-game genre VNs don't dare to ask. Usually egged on by its main gimmick - the main game - where everyone decides who dies. This game starts randomly and the trials are not about finding a murderer but choosing someone innocent to kill. This creates an environment that is flipped on its head compared to other death-game VNS, where exploration is where everyone trusts one another and the trials are where people start to fear one another - as opposed to the typical fear seen in exploration stages and coming together during trial stages. What I really appreciate about this game is how realistic everyone acts based on the situation. The game has a fantastic overarching mystery, a main character that's much more of her own character than most PoV VNs, a supporting cast that all feels important - where they all get arcs (unlike other death game VNs), and a garageband soundtrack made of mostly pre-made loops that still bangs like HELL. Its really hard to write a review without spoiling the game. However, it is worth noting that you can play this game for free online and its officially free there. The steam version was made to support the creator (1 person) and give you access to bonus features. I think this game is far and away worth the price - if you can afford it, buy it. If you cant - still play it online. It is such a refreshing thing to have a death-game VN written by someone other than Kodaka or Uchikoshi and have it be so good.
9/10. reminds me of 999 nonary games but it feels like its own thing. engaging gameplay like the extract/conflict system it feels just like ace attorney. if you enjoy "Death Game" Genre after chapter 1 the "sub games" in each chapter are so well thought out and could seriously be on a real life game show (without the killing of course lol.) above all there are many narratives in this game and to discover them through all the twists and dilemmas regarding each character you meet and the nature of the world this game takes place in is what makes this a entertaining story game. please play the game BLIND at least once before doing any research.
For those who don't like the unhinged and hectic writing of Danganronpa, this one feels way more grounded without sacrificing the charm of any of the characters. The "Monokuma" character in this game isn't the most interesting but gets the job done. The MC is way more compelling than the bland protagonists of THH and V3. With less characters overall they get more development through interactions with other, by the time a character is done you really feel more for them. While I haven't finished the game it seems that there is one more update left to finish the story. I will gladly wait for it and hope you do too.
